Methods of hair transplantation

In general, there are these methods of hair transplantation:

  • FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction):
Single hair extraction of 1-5 roots belonging together

  • FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation):
Strip harvesting at the back of the head

  • Implanter pen hair transplant:
Hair follicles are implanted into the scalp with an implanter pen immediately after removal

Results as natural as possible

In Zurich, we rely on the FUE method and DHI technique, which enable natural results without noticeable scars at the back of the head.

Depending on the extent of the hair loss, the number of hairs required is estimated. Using the Hamilton-Norwood scale, we can divide patients into different stages and thus determine the time and cost required.

  • With the FUE method (single hair transplant), there are no visible scars as the hair follicles are harvested individually. In contrast, the FUT method (strip extraction) leaves a clearly visible scar at the back of the head.

Implanter pen hair transplantation

  • Characteristics: Hair follicles are inserted into the scalp directly after removal using a CHIO pin, without channels being opened beforehand.

  • Advantages: Shorter healing time, maximum precision, natural hairline.

  • Particularly suitable: For minor procedures or shaping the hairline.

  • Implanter pen hair transplantation is a modern method of hair transplantation that offers a precise and gentle procedure. Hair follicles are implanted directly into the scalp using a special instrument known as an implanter pen, without the need to open channels beforehand.

Features of the Implanter Pen hair transplant:

    • Direct implantation: Hair follicles are implanted in the recipient area immediately after harvesting.

    • Implanter Pen: A special tool that allows control over the depth, direction and angle of hair growth.

    • Minimal stress: Since no channels are opened in advance, the surrounding tissue is subjected to less stress, which can accelerate healing.

    • Highest precision: The method allows a particularly dense and natural placement of the hair.

    Advantages:

    • Shorter treatment and healing time.

    • Natural results thanks to precise placement.

    • Ideal for minor procedures or finer work such as shaping the hairline.

FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction)

  • Advantages: No visible scars, precise removal of individual hair follicles.

  • Procedure: Consultation, preparation, extraction of the hair follicles, opening of the channels in the recipient area and implantation.

  • Results: Natural hair growth, final result after 9-12 months.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma):

PRP stands for "platelet-rich plasma" and is a technique in which the patient's blood is processed in order to isolate the platelet-rich component.

  • This contains growth factors that promote cell regeneration and wound healing.

    • With stem cells from FUE: PRP is combined with stem cells from the removed hair follicle material to enhance the regenerative effects.

    • Without stem cells: PRP is used alone and injected into the scalp to promote blood circulation and stimulate hair follicles.

Alternative & complementary

Treatments

Nanofat (shredded autologous fat):

Nanofat is a method in which the body's own fatty tissue is removed, processed and converted into a fine, shredded form.

  • This processed fat contains valuable growth factors and regenerative cells that can be used in aesthetic medicine. In hair transplants, nanofat can help to revitalize the scalp, regenerate the tissue and promote hair growth.

Both procedures serve to improve the results of a hair transplant and support hair growth in the long term.

  • How long do the results of a hair transplant last?

The transplanted hairs are usually permanent, as they are taken from areas that are less prone to hair loss.

  • When will I be socially acceptable again after the procedure?

As a rule, you will be socially acceptable again after a few days .
Slight redness or swelling may occur, but will subside quickly.

Avoid intensive physical exertion such as sport for about 2 weeks.

  • Are there alternatives to hair transplants?

Yes, there are drug treatments and regenerative methods such as PRP or nanofat that can stimulate hair growth.

  • Is the procedure painful?

Thanks to local anesthesia, the procedure is largely pain-free.
After the anesthetic has worn off, slight pain may occur, but this can be easily treated with standard painkillers.

  • Which method is best for me?

This depends on your individual needs.

While the FUE method is suitable for larger procedures, the DHI technique is ideal for smaller areas and a particularly precise hairline design.

  • Are there any visible scars after the treatment?

With FUE and Implanter Pen hair transplantation , there are no visible scars.
With the FUT method, a clear scar remains at the back of the head.

The procedure

The procedure

The procedure of the FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction)

  1. Consultation:

The doctor examines the hair status and draws up an individual treatment plan, including the number of grafts required.
A transparent cost estimate is provided and detailed preparation instructions are given.

  2. Preparation:

The donor and recipient areas are shaved after consultation.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, making it painless.

  3. Removal of the hair follicles:

The hair follicles are removed individually from the donor area (usually the back of the head) using special instruments and prepared directly for transplantation.

  4. Preparation of the receiver area:

Fine channels are opened in bare or light areas. The alignment of the channels is designed to ensure natural growth.

  5. Transplantation:

The extracted hair follicles are inserted individually into the prepared channels. Attention is paid to aesthetic density and arrangement.

  6. Completion and aftercare:

A check-up is carried out after the treatment. Care instructions for the first few days and weeks are given. A follow-up appointment is carried out after two days to monitor the healing process.

  4. Direct implantation:

The hair follicles are inserted directly and precisely into the recipient area using an implanter pen, without having to open channels beforehand.

  5. Completion and aftercare:

After the procedure, an initial check-up is carried out and care instructions are given.
